SENIOR PET CARE AT KINGSBROOK ANIMAL HOSPITAL
Preventive exams for your senior pet will prevent conditions and diseases that are common during the later years in life such as bone and joint problems, hormone disorders, cancer, and diseases of the kidney, heart, and liver. Because pets age at a faster rate than humans, our veterinians recommend biannual exams to look for any potential underlying conditions.
At Kingsbrook Animal Hospital, we offer programs that are tailored specifically for the needs of senior dogs and cats which includes a complete exam, urinalysis, blood-chemistry panel, and parasite evaluation. We can also suggest special formulated food for your pet, whose new nutritional needs will benefit from an adjusted diet. In addition to biannual exams, keeping your older pet active may help to slow the deterioration of senses associated with the aging process. We can help you create an exercise plan that is appropriate with your pet’s ability, and mental stimulation games for your senior pet.
Regular wellness visits will give us an opportunity to discuss any age-related changes your pet may be experiencing. Please call us immediately if you notice any of the following signs in your dog or cat:
- Sudden weight loss or gain
- Significant decrease or increase in appetite or failure to eat for more than two days
- Noticeable decrease in vision
- Increasing inactivity or amount of time spent sleeping
- Excessive panting
- Hair loss, especially if accompanied by scratching in local area (as opposed to general)
- Seizures or convulsing
Please call us today to schedule your pet’s senior wellness exam with one of our veterinarians.
