PAIN MANAGEMENT AT KINGSBROOK ANIMAL HOSPITAL

If your dog or cat is experiencing pain and discomfort due to injury, illness, or surgery, Kingsbrook Animal Hospital can provide pain management services to help provide relief. We are able to target both chronic and acute conditions, and we can develop a customized treatment plan that will improve and maintain your pet’s quality of life.

WHAT IS ACUTE VS CHRONIC PAIN?

Acute pain has a sudden onset, typically resulting from an injury, infection or surgery. Although it’s usually temporary, acute pain can be very distressing and limit your pet’s mobility and slow their recovery. Most types of acute pain can be best controlled if addressed quickly, keeping your pet as comfortable as possible.

Chronic pain develops slowly over time and is persistent. Many chronic conditions are linked to age-related conditions such as arthritis, but can also be caused by illnesses such as cancer. Pain from chronic conditions is especially troublesome as it can go on for a long period of time. Because every situation is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for pain. We will tailor a plan for your best friend that addresses the pain from multiple angles in order to optimize their comfort.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MAY PET IS IN PAIN?

Often, signs of pain are fairly obvious, such as whimpering, crying out or limping. Other times, pets show pain in more subtle ways, such as panting, sleeping more or reluctance to exercise as much as usual and even lack of appetite. If you note any of the above, please contact us so we can help your pet feel better as soon as possible.
