Rufflections For a Mew Year: Kingsbrook Animal Hospital Looks Back on 2019

2019 brought some highly anticipated changes for Kingsbrook Animal Hospital here in Frederick, MD. We’d like to pause (paws?) for a moment and ruff-lect on what we’ve accomplished, so that we’re better able to help pets and their people in the Mew Year: 2020!

  • KAH owners Dr. Cook and Dr. Davis proudly show off the blueprints for our expansion.

We completed construction on our new space  Kingsbrook Animal Hospital has been going strong since 1999, when we had just 2 full-time doctors and one part-time. In 2017, when we added veterinarian #7, we realized it was time to stretch out a bit. The construction process was quite an adventure, but we are so proud of our new hospital and absolutely ecstatic that we are able to accommodate more pets and clients who need us. Have you seen our new hospital? Come by for a tour!

  • We celebrated our 20-year anniversary Since our beginning, we’ve
KAH celebrated its 20-year anniversary in 2019!

grown to 8 veterinarians, 5 client service representatives, 13 licensed technicians, and 7 assistants. We now help our clients care for pet birds, cats, dogs, pocket pets, rabbits, and even some reptiles—and we can’t wait to see what the next 20 years will bring!

  • All of us were so excited to welcome the blood bank back to KAH!

We’ve resumed hosting Blue Ridge Veterinary Blood Bank… After a brief hiatus during construction, we are back to helping the Blood Bank once a month. Any dog over 35lbs and under the age of 7 can donate to Blue Ridge. It costs owners nothing, and as a perk, blood donors get free screening bloodwork once a year. Contact us to find out more about how your dog could save lives!

KAH technicians Tiki and Lainey are teaching our Vet Academy students about radiology.
  • …And re-started Vet Academy Also on pause during our expansion, Vet Academy is back and better than ever. We are underway with an all-new program highlighting Radiology, Dentistry, Parasitology, and more. Kids from 9 to 13 years of age who are interested in animals or learning more about veterinary medicine are invited to sign up!
  • The entire KAH staff learned so much while we were hosting the Martins!

Becoming Fear Free We were so fortunate to have both Dr. Kenneth Martin and Debbie Martin, LVT come and spend two days with KAH to help us achieve our goal of being a Fear Free practice. We currently have 9 practice members who are individually Fear Free certified, and all of us are looking forward to making Kingsbrook a more positive experience for each of our patients.

  • Oral Health and Surgery Continuing Education Cindy Charlier
Dr Charlier takes a time-out from our CE to pose with all eight of the KAH veterinarians!

returned to KAH to offer guidance and advice on increasing the level of our oral care. Now that we have two tables in our dental suite, we are able to perform more Oral Evaluation & Cleanings (OECs) every week—which means we are helping more patients live healthier, happier lives because of their clean and pain-free mouths. Not sure if your fur-baby would benefit from an OEC? Schedule a consult with one of Kingsbrook Animal Hospital’s veterinarians today!

  • Just a few of Santa Paws’ elves–KAH’s 2019 event was the best yet!

Finally back to our community outreach! KAH was present at Bark in the Park (May) and Frederick Pride (June) this year, and we had the best-ever SantaPaws event on December 7 after taking 2018 off.  We are so glad to be out and about again, and we raised over $1000 for the Kylie and Cricket Memorial Fund from SantaPaws!

So, where do we go from here?  Our goal is to continue to improve in every aspect—to meet and surpass the needs of our patients and clients through the most thoughtful, knowledgeable, informed, and compassionate care possible. Every one of us at KAH is hopeful that 2020 will be our best year yet!
