MEET SABRINA PALM, DVM

I think almost every child with an interest in animals has thought about becoming a veterinarian one day. I am no different. There was never that “ah-hah!” moment that I all of a sudden knew I wanted to be a vet. I have always had an affinity towards animals and I have always considered making a career out of what I love the most. To be honest, there were many times in my life where I didn’t think veterinary medicine was the right path for me. They say the money isn’t great, it takes forever to pay back student loans, it’s extremely challenging, and compassion fatigue is a big concern. But I say, “if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” That is exactly what I have found through veterinary medicine. You will never have a day identical to another and you will continuously surprise yourself with the challenges you overcome each day. After all, being a veterinarian is the most gratifying, yet hardest job of them all.

I have had animals in my life since the very beginning. We always had dogs and cats growing up and I even convinced my parents to let me get my very own lizards, hamsters, turtles, and more as a kid. Unfortunately, I was never able to make a convincing enough argument to have a horse, but I sure tried! Luckily there was a barn about 2 miles away from my house that I would spend my entire summers at, so I was able to get my large animal fix.

I rescued my first pet from the animal hospital I worked at throughout college. He was a stray kitten that was brought in only a couple days old and one of my co-workers hand raised him until he was old enough to be adopted. He is an orange tabby cat and arguably the best cat in the world. My second rescue came from an animal shelter I volunteered at during my last couple years in college. He is an incredibly handsome pittie mix who is my partner in crime when it comes to adventures. These two boys accompanied me to Ohio where I attended vet school at Ohio State University. I definitely couldn’t have gotten through school without them. There was never a time, early morning or late night, that they both weren’t snuggled up next to me helping me study.

I am very excited and lucky to be part of such a great team at Kingsbrook. The quality of medicine practiced here and the commitment to caring for our patients as a team is so above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Every single person cares so much about the animals we treat and loves them like they are their own. It’s great to be surrounded by such compassionate individuals. I am so thankful to be a part of this one-of-a-kind team and learn from the best as I grow as a veterinarian.
