Home •Who We Are• Matt Kemper, DVM
Unlike a lot of other veterinarians, I didn’t always dream of working in this field. I always found international politics interesting, so I started down that path for a while, first getting my BA in Political Science, then an MA in International Affairs and working in the field of International Trade. I eventually realized, though, that my love of animals and the deep connections we form with them was my true passion.
I had a childhood friend whose father was a veterinarian. We used to hang out at the animal hospital that was attached to his house, watching him work with his patients, and I remember thinking what an important job he had! He was always so caring and passionate about their well-being. And that is the same way I felt about my pets. My family moved every few years, and the pets we had growing up were always a source of comfort when living in a new town because their love and friendship were unwavering. It didn’t matter where we lived, they were family. I chose to become a veterinarian so I could help strengthen that human-animal bond and contribute to my community in a meaningful way. Whether that is a puppy’s first visit to the vet clinic, a sick visit, or providing advice and comfort with end-of-life care, I hope to support the bond you have with your pets as members of your family. I look forward to contributing to (and living in) the Frederick community!
My amazing wife, Kristen, was more than happy to support this dream and moved with me and our senior white cat Archie, from DC to Blacksburg, VA where I received my DVM from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Along the way, we added to our family with a daughter, Sophie. Her first word, appropriately, was “cat.” And ever since then, she has forced Archie to be her best friend (he secretly loves it). We are very excited to make Frederick our home!
I love taking my pets to Kingsbrook because I know they are getting the best possible care. The veterinarians and medical support staff are highly skilled and caring professionals. From the well trained client care specialists at the front desk on up, everyone at Kingsbrook is kind and compassionate and they make you feel like family.
