Jennifer Scuffins, RVT

I began working at Kingsbrook Animal Hospital in June of 2008. I've been in the Veterinary Field for the past 9 years, 5 of which I've been a Registered Veterinary Technician.

I was born and raised in Boonsboro, Md. I graduated from Boonsboro High in 2001 and attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. I graduated in 2003 with an Associate of Biology Degree and veterinary technician training. During high school, my first job was at Widow's Mite Farm Boarding Facility in Fairplay, MD where I worked for 3 years. During college, I worked at the Humane Society of Washington County, running the Foster Care Program and also caring for all the ill/injured pets in the shelter. I also worked in the clinic, helping document and register all new in-coming animals. This is where I developed my passion for cats as well as Spay/Neuter and Feral Trap/Neuter/Release programs to help control the populations of unwanted cats in our communities. I volunteered for Allie Cat Allies in northern VA and assisted with spay/neuter clinics where we often did 85-120 surgeries in 4-5 hours, neutering, grooming, and vaccinating feral cats to be returned to their established safe colonies. With my work at the shelter, I also fostered many pets, including 2 chickens, nursing them back to health and finding them forever homes.

After college, I began working full time as a vet tech at Taylorsville Veterinary Clinic in Mt.Airy ( I applied at Kingsbrook but they didn't have any openings!) I have also worked for Dr. Schueler at the Veterinary Neurologic Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Westminster,MD.

In 2005, I moved to northern western Pennsylvania where I worked in a mixed practice-small animal and Equine for 3 years. I continued to do rescue work, mostly cats but also a few small dogs, finding them permanent homes. I moved back to Maryland in May 2008 and now live in Keedysville. I am servant to 8 cats, ranging in age from 14 years to 4 months- Piglet, Gus Gus, Sammi, Ferdinand Magellan, Hope Eternal, Johnnie Cotton, Willow, and Pirate Fox. Piglet has asthma, arthritis, and is also hyperthyroid. Gus Gus is diabetic and requires twice-daily injections of insulin. I also have a 4 year old pot bellied pig named LilliAnna and a 5 year old Dachshund, Austin, that is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a cart to get around.

I have always wanted to work with animals and can't imagine any place better to do it than Kingsbrook!
