Ann S

I have always had a love for animals. My parents were very tolerant of my passion, accepting every orphaned creature that I found and assisting my attempts to nurture and return them to their original surroundings. After graduating from high school in California, I obtained a BachelorŐs Degree in Biology at UCSD with an emphasis in Molecular and Marine Biology. My husband, Jeff, a laboratory director at NCI, is also fond of animals and so it came as no surprise that we settled in Frederick on a large piece of property that would accommodate our mutual hobby. My two children and I have taken care of salamanders, a Canadian goose orphan, box turtles, water snakes and a misguided Common Loon that landed on a wet street in hopes of finding a pond.

My real passion, for the last 30 years, has been breeding, training and competing my Golden Retrievers in performance events, Obedience, Hunt Tests and Field Trials. Training retrievers has also fueled my interest in dog behavior and genetics. I love to problem solve and by teaching obedience classes, have gained great satisfaction watching unruly youngsters become wonderful companions!

Prior to coming to the Kingsbook Animal Hospital, I worked in two animal hospitals for 18 years as a Veterinary Assistant and Office Manager. I enjoy working not only with the animals, but also with their owners, helping them to understand preventative care and how to increase the length and quality of life of their pets.
